(A)
For Horizontal Aluminium Sliding Windows
(B) For Vertical Sliding Windows
Prepared by C. S. Madan, Chairman Sub
Committee of AAI on Building & Architecture
Foreword :
This specification is developed by representative members of the
Aluminium Association of India. It is published as a service to
Architects, Consulting Engineers, Fabricators, Extruders and end
users for the benefit of Building Industry.
As awareness about the super qualities of Aluminium in the Building
Industry is very low, an attempt is made to highlight the specific
performance requirements of windows. These are intended for high
rise multistory and other public buildings.
In the modern trend, design is the key. Design intensive products
like Noise Reduction Windows, Energy Saving Windows, Roof Windows,
Sky light etc, are all the main stay of the industry in developed
countries.
The
highlights of specification are to encourage innovations, new ideas
and adopt system-selling approach and such products shall conform
to Indian National Standards regarding structural and functional
requirements.
The
specification is intended as a guide for adoption by the Architects,
Specifiers and End Users.
AAI
disclaims any responsibility or liability of any kind in connection
with material contained in this specification. It is also pointed
out that none of the contents shall be construed as a recommendation
of any patented or proprietary applications that may be mentioned
in the specification.
It
has always been a problem for the Specifiers in selecting products
and then deal with situations to substitute for the choice. IT is
not always the process goes smoothly and to defend the choice against
inappropriate situations.
It
is because the players do not understand the process and each other's
motives. It is well know that the specifiers have the right to create
proprietary specifications. World over specifiers / Architects have
established to excercise their expert opinion and legitimately select
speciality products other than commodity products like concrete
etc.
Th
advantages are many to all concerned, in particular to End Users.
The question "or equivalent" method leads to complications
and for good reason too. The question is "how equal is equal?".
The
only person who knows the value or criteria is the Architect/Specifier.
The Specifier / Architects are always at a disadvantage to select
the best suited material for the application for want of product
knowledge and criteria required for selection.
It
is because of this lacuna that AAI hae stepped in to formulate Specifications,
Code of Conduct, etc. for Architectual applications and AAI would
advise their Specifiers to stick to their specification and implement
the programme.
Some
of the details have been reproduced from International Publications,
Manuals, British Standards, Guidelines etc, and the objective is
not to curtail the freedom of the designer to offer better windows
using good materials and to maintain high Standards.
